Competition for March's Theme

Posted by Timothy Gray on February 13, 2007

I’d like to announce what will hopefully be the first of many community competitions. Each month we’re going to let you pick the theme for our next art commission. For now, just post a comment here to nominate a Biblical theme that you would like to see turned into art. Themes can be anything from a Bible story to a concept or idea. Be as specific as you want.

If you like someone’s idea, simply post a comment to say so. The approved theme with the most individual votes will win. When the artwork is completed, we’ll send the winner an artist-signed print at any of our sizes and on any of our materials. Don’t be shy – you could be next month’s winner!

Awesome! I love your site. I’ve been taking notes especially on your typography – quite an achievement in terms of typography on the web.

Since you are a fledgling company how about the theme of David and Goliath for the month of March?

Three Ideas…(maybe not necessarily best for March)

Ezekiel 22:30 “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. “

Ezekiel—37 The Valley of Dry Bones

Acts 27:39-44

I’d like to second the David vs. Goliath idea. I’d also love to get Cory Godbey to work on it. He’s already done a David and Goliath illustration, but I’d like to see what he would come up if tasked with a more serious, grand-scale fine art piece. If you’re unfamiliar with Cory’s work, check out some of his recent work – it’s amazing!

Dandelion Embers
The Blue Goblet, book III: The King in the Mountain
Quiet

I would like to see artwork on the theme of sheep and the Great Shepherd. Either Psalm 23 or Luke 15:3-5. The story of the prodigal son would also be good.

I love Tim’s idea of the three (or four) in the fiery furnace in Daniel 3. I whole-heartedly second that idea.

I just stumbled across this site at 3am. I’m glad I found it.

My Idea for March, “The Cross”

I might be too late for this, seeing it is now April, but I love the idea of the Drawing in the Sand. It is one of the great mysteries of the Bible. And mystery is a great place for artistic expression to thrive.

Something I always like seeing expressed is The Lion and The Lamb.

I’d love to see Justin do a piece that tells the story of Moses pleading with God to not destroy HIS people after they constructed and were worshipping the golden calf as god. It would be a piece to remind us that God listens to prayer. It would be a great companion piece to the crossing of the Red Sea showing how quickly the people decided to replace God even after being present for such a great miracle…

So is there a winner?

Yeah. Rather bogus to have a contest with no winner.

My apologies for being absent without leave. For the past few months, we have been moving across the country in stages. We’ve finally got the equipment set up again and are back in business.

I still want to have a contest (and do a lot of other things here at 12 Stone), but the demand has not been high enough for us to commission our next piece. As soon as that changes, we will continue where we left off with the contest. I’ll try to do a better job of communicating with everyone. Feel free to continue your suggestions – I love hearing them!

Hello, 12 Stone,

I hope you’re able to make a go of this site. Looks like it’s been idle for some time.

Right now, you seem to be limiting yourselves to commissioning work from specific artists and then selling the giclees. What about moving beyond that to asking for entries from the Christian artist community at large once or twice a year? The entries could be displayed on the site and the winner awarded the honor of having giclees made and sold on the site. It would be logical and enriching expansion, I think.

Thank you for the site. I have enjoyed it.

Yours,

KUWfreeindeed
